[Tokyo] Day 1 – Shibuya Meji Shrine – Ginza Kagari (Michelin ramen) – Team Lab Planet 

Once you have arrived at Narita Airport, head to the city centre via Narita Express.

You can drop off your luggage if your hotel or apartment is ready for check-in. If not, there are places to store it along the train lines.

Afterwards, get ready to kick off your Japan adventure in Tokyo, the bustling epicentre of the country!

On day one, immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere by exploring the popular districts of Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku. 

Harajuku

Start your day with a morning coffee or Japan’s signature matcha tea, then dive into the youthful buzz of Harajuku.

Hunt for vintage treasures on Takeshita Dori in the renowned shopping district!

[Tokyo] Day 2 – Ueno Park- Sensoji Temple – Nakamise-dori Shopping Street

Tsukiji Outer Market 

Visit Tsukiji Outer Market, the best spot in Tokyo to try fresh local Japanese food.

Arrive early to avoid the crowds and to make sure you don’t miss out before it closes in the afternoon!

Hat Coffee

Head over to Hat Coffee for 3D personalised latte art.

All you need to do is show them a reference picture and they’ll create it on the spot.

Since it is highly personalised, it takes a little while to make, so they even provide a phone stand if you wish to record the whole process!

Stop by Ueno Park, especially beautiful in spring (though visiting in autumn was incredibly stunning too!)🍁

It’s home to some of Tokyo’s best museums, including the Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and National Science Museum! 

The park is open to the public to visit and is a must-visit for tourists for flower viewing.

You can hop by Ueno Zoo which was Japan’s first-ever zoological garden while you’re there.

Senso-ji Temple

Next, visit the iconic Senso-ji Temple, one of the oldest temples in Japan dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of mercy. 

The five-storey pagoda and main hall are the main architectural highlights, and many have come to learn about its historical significance. 

The Thunder Gate (Kaminarimon) is a popular entrance featuring a red lantern adorned with Tokyo’s symbol!

Visiting the Ghibli Museum is a must-visit not just for fans of Studio Ghibli animation, its unique architecture and art are extremely immersive even for those who haven’t watched a Ghibli film!

[Mt. Fuji] Day 4 – A Glimpse of Mt. Fuji

For a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, head to Mount Fuji, Japan’s iconic mountain! 🗻

Option 1: Lake Kawaguchiko

Consider renting a car or hiring a driver to visit Lake Kawaguchiko, a town near Mt. Fuji. 

Enjoy the stunning views during the ride, while savouring food from 7-Eleven!

Option 2: Bus/ Train ride to Mt. Fuji

Taking a bus or train to the Mount Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Option 3: Hakone

There are also trains connecting Tokyo and Hakone. 

Hakone is a popular spot for onsen (volcanic hot spring) and offers jaw-dropping views of Mount Fuji. You might consider staying overnight at a nearby ryokan.

While you’re there, you may board an authentic pirate ship on deep blue Lake Ashi that offers you a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji! 🏴‍☠️

 

 

[Kyoto] Day 5 – Fushimi Inari Shrine – Gion District – Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Next up is travelling from Mount Fuji to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural capital.

On day seven, make the stunning, secluded Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine your first stop, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates. 

This isn’t just any other gates; they form a path that leads to the summit of Mount Inari. 

While hiking, soak in the captivating views, and once you’ve reached the top, be sure to show your respect at the 5 shrines!

Gion District 

This historic area is known for its traditional architecture and teahouses.

If you’re lucky enough, you may even spot Geisha or Maiko (Geisha’s apprentice) dressed in traditional attire!

Just a 10-minute walk away is the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site!

Take a stroll along the scenic Philosopher’s Path, and indulge in some delicious Kyoto-style cuisine for dinner.

[Kyoto] Day 6 – Bamboo Forest – Arashiyama Market – Rankyo Gorge

Walk through the bamboo grove and marvel at the UNESCO-protected temples of Saga-Arashiyama.

The bamboo forest is located in Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple, and there is an entrance fee of 500 yen.

It’s a serene walk, surrounded by 90-foot-tall bamboo trees! 

💡Pro tip: To avoid the crowds, venture further into the hidden bamboo forest, where there are fewer tourists, allowing you to take as many photos as you want without anyone photobombing you!

Arashiyama Market

The streets near the Bamboo Forest are filled with cafes and food stalls leaving you spoilt for choices!

Many recommend trying the Mame Tai (Taiyaki), Kotoimo Honpo (mochi), and Kyozuan (tofu ice cream) when you’re there.

One of the must-do activities while you are in Kyoto is to take the Sagano Scenic Train, a 25-minute ride to Torokko Kameoka Station that offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding nature!

This place is a beauty with stunning views, perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

[Nara] Day 7 -Todai-ji Temple – Kasaguga Taisha Shrine – Nara Park

Travel to Nara, a picturesque city located outside of Kyoto.

This little-known gem is perhaps best known for the free-roaming deer, but there’s plenty to see!

Head to Todaiji, an astounding UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 8th century. 

Its most famous feature is the Great Buddha AKA Nara Daibutsu, which is housed in one of the world’s largest wooden structures!

At the entrance, stop at one of the shops selling Narazuke, a traditional Japanese pickle.

Kasuga-Taisha Shrine

Explore the distinguished Kasugu-taisha shrine, which houses four main deities and is considered a very sacred site in Japan! 

The shrine is famous for having the largest number of lanterns in Japan, with 2,000 stone lanterns and 1,000 hanging lanterns!

One of the oldest parks in Japan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nara Park is even more delightful with its friendly deer! 

The park is a must-visit, famous for its roaming deer, allowing visitors to get up close for photos and feed them.

Fun fact: The deers in Nara Park are known to bow their heads when they see you offering crackers or bowing to them!

[Osaka] Day 8 – Harvest Hill – Osaka Shinsekai – Tsutenkaku Tower – Kuromon Market – Cup Noodle Museum

Option 1: Harvest Hill

Located outside of central Osaka, Harvest Hill is a lovely destination, especially for nature lovers! 

It features a stunning landscape of flower fields and it offers various activities from flower picking and animal interactions.

Get to know the unique perspective of the history and evolution of instant noodles where you can get to see how it was invented and the impact on global food culture.

Osaka Shinsekai 

Shinsekai means “New World” and it’s a vibrant and retro district reminiscent of Osaka in the 20th century with Neon lights and traditional shops!

While you’re at Shinsekai, make sure to try out the street food, Kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) in particular!

This is one of the most iconic landmarks in Osaka

When you’re up above at Tsutenkaku Tower soak in the stunning views of the city, and take some Instagram-worthy shots! 📷

[Osaka] Day 9 – USJ – Dotonbori 

Head to Osaka via the bullet train and reach under 30 minutes!

Grab an early and heavy breakfast before heading to your next destination!

You might consider trying a Konbini breakfast at 7-Eleven; it is affordable and filling!

You can’t say you’ve been to Japan if you haven’t visited USJ. It’s a full-on experience, offering a unique mix of attractions along with top-tier hospitality —a must-visit!

Most of the queues are one to two hours long, but with an express pass, you can get in within 30 minutes, so we highly recommend getting the express passes! It’s 100% worth it! 

Like any other theme park, make sure you finish your food before entering, as it will get confiscated!

The food in theme parks is usually on the pricier side, so if you’re travelling on a budget, consider filling up your stomach before entering the park!

Ramen Chonmage Osaka Tenroku

Located in the streets of Osaka is the best female ramen master in Japan, who runs the store herself.

When you’re there, make sure you try her famous ramen and fried rice. 

Arriving early is advisable to avoid the dinner crowd!

If you’re a foodie planning to visit Dotonburi, expect a huge crowd and long queues no matter which day you go. 

Remember to note down the food you want to try beforehand, as the crowd can be overwhelming!

[Osaka] Day 10 – Osaka Castle Park – Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan – Nakazakicho/Kema Sakuranomiya Park
