Visit Dinosaurs And Travel Back In Time

Dinos haven’t gone fully extinct, at least that’s what you’ll think when you visit Dinoland at SAFRA Yishun. The reptile figures are practically life-size and even emit roaring noises.

Apart from admiring the dinosaurs, Dinoload has a line-up of hands-on activities for kids and adults such as a Fossil Digging Site and Underground Cave. Make sure you wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty when you visit, as the activities involve getting into the sand to excavate fossils.

Opening Hours: Tuesday to Friday 5 AM – 8:30 PM Saturday to Sunday 10 AM – 8 PM

Enjoying Yishun’s Gastronomic Delights

Yishun 928 Laksa

One of the must-try when you visit Yishun is this humble family restaurant. This gem is located below an HDB void deck with seats available both indoors and outdoors. The store is well known for its creamy and thick broth priced only at $3 for a small bowl and $3.50 for a larger portion.

The long queue they have is a testament to how shiok it tastes! We suggest that you visit the non-peak hours as they almost always have a queue 🤤

Location: 928 Yishun Central 1, #01-155, Singapore 760928

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 10 AM – 6 PM

Chong Pang Nasi Lemak

Another hot favourite of the residents in Yishun is the Nasi Lemak at Chong Pang, the go-to spot for late-night suppers. The Nasi Lemak here will surely satisfy cravings with their aromatic coconut-infused rice and generous servings of chicken—especially with those giant drumsticks we all love!

Location: 447 Sembawang Rd, Singapore 758404

Opening Hours: 5 PM – 7 AM

Exploring Yishun’s Parks and Nature Reserves

Seletar Dam

Yishun Dam, also known as Seletar Dam, is a scenic lookout point, especially during nighttime. It’s a popular spot for picnics, barbeques, and casual gatherings. The striking sunset views and calm waters make it an ideal location for relaxing with family and friends.

Once a top-secret spot only accessible by car or bicycle, Yishun Dam is now less out of the way with the availability of bus services 103 and 117. Even so, it remains relatively crowd-free and is one of Singapore’s best places to catch a sunset by calm waters.

There’s not much else here, but this little piece of heaven is also my go-to for chill BBQ sessions – thanks to disposable barbeque pits from Cold Storage with pre-packed charcoal. Bring along a picnic mat, sparklers, and portable speakers, and you’re all set for a great cookout.

For a change of scenery, you can also take a quick stroll down to Rower’s Bay Park that’s located just a stone’s throw away.

Location: Lower Seletar Reservoir

KTPH’s Rooftop Herb Garden: Grow Your Organic Goodies

Source: Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

With its lush greenery leading out to Yishun Pond, the ground floor of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital looks more like a garden than part of a medical centre. However, most don’t know that its 7th floor is home to an actual garden – where everything grown is edible!

From corn to Thai basil and winter melon, the myriad of produce here – as well as the fertiliser used – is 100% organic. You can gain access to the garden as a volunteer tending it on weekdays too.

Location: 90 Yishun Central, Singapore 768828

Opening Hours: 24-Hours

Yishun is a hidden gem in Singapore, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, exciting activities, and cultural experiences. From wildlife encounters to gastronomic delights, Yishun has something for everyone.
