However, with the advancement in the smartphone camera lens and the AI that processes the image, smartphones can deliver some impressive pictures. Today we will be comparing the camera quality of a few flagship smartphones. These are our picks for best smartphone cameras of 2018.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
Smartphone Camera Specs:
The Mate 20 Pro is packed with a 40MP, 20MP and 8MP rear camera. Yup, that’s a total amount of 3 lenses! There is one front-facing 24MP camera.
Pros:
With three lenses, the camera can do so much more. Not only can you take a wide-angle shot during your next gathering, but you can also make full use of the macro lens to capture tiny objects such as fishes or insects. The Mate 20 Pro offers one of the best portrait modes we have seen on a smartphone.
Cons:
While the image processing works magic, sometimes it can be a little too much. This may cause your photo to lose the feel of what you are trying to capture.

Google Pixel 3/ Google Pixel 3 XL

The Google Pixel 3 comes with a 12.2 MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera.
Pros:
Recently, the Pixel 3 camera was updated with a new night mode feature. When this mode is turned on, you can capture some awesome photos in shallow light condition. (You will need a little bit of light though) Pixel 3 also has some powerful AI that helps to process your image.
The front camera comes with a feature to “zoom out” You no longer need long arms to be able to capture everyone in the frame for your next “wefie” For those who like to adjust the aperture, ISO or have full control over the camera, Pixel 3 also have those options.
Cons:
One of the main complaints is it only comes with one rear lens when many of the other phones here have at least 2. Google manages to make up for this shortcoming with the images Google Pixel 3 captures.
iPhone XS/ iPhone XS Max

iPhone XS comes with a dual 12MP wide-angle and telephoto rear camera setup. It has has a 7MP front camera.
Pros:
Find many have criticised that the notch looks cumbersome, we have to admit it is packed with amazing sensors. This made the iPhone XS a perfect selfie machine. With Apple’s massive focus on it’s AI chipset this launch, the iPhone XS is also able to deliver fantastic portrait mode pictures. This is great for those who enjoy taking these aesthetic professional looking photos.
Cons:
Well, the iPhone XS can get very expensive. Also, some users have voiced out that some of the pictures can be oversaturated. This may be before the “beauty mode” bug was fixed.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

The S9 Plus comes with 2 12 MP rear cameras and one 8 MP front-facing camera. The f/1.5 lens is great for low light photos
Pros:
The two lens works very well together. It is one of the best phones for video recording, and the slow-motion video recording is of top class. For people who are not very good at photography, fear not as the S9 Plus auto mode is fantastic.
Cons:
S9 Plus is also one of the more expensive phones on this list. Also, it is one of the older phones on this list since it was released on March 2018. For Samsung S Series fans out there, we suggest waiting a few more months to get the latest one.
Our personal favourite will be the Google Pixel 3. The versatility of the camera is just astonishing and anyone, be it a camera noob or a professional, can use the Google Pixel 3 for all sorts of photography. In terms of picture quality, it has definitely won all smartphones hands down.
