Banff is a spectacular alpine town located in the Canadian Rockies.

The place is rich with an extraordinary mix of natural scenic beauty that will make your jaw drop.

Here is the ultimate guide to your 4-day stay in Banff, which can be done in style. 😎

The Canadian Banff National Park was founded in Canada as the first such park that showcases its beauty with lakes, rivers, and mountains. 🏔️

This is a great place for anyone looking to escape into nature, get some rest and relaxation, or try out both at once.

No matter what the season is, you will be able to do numerous outdoor activities such as such as skiing during the winter, and hiking and paddling during the summer.

As Banff is located within the Canadian Rockies, renting a car is necessary to get to all the must-visit scenic spots, while ensuring that your travel itinerary goes off without a hitch!

(Note: You would need a Discovery Pass to enter Banff National Park. Purchase it here.)

Day 1: Welcome To Banff Town

We highly suggest that you lodge in the town of Banff.

The town gives you access to Alberta standards like Elk and Bison, and also many cozy cafes and handicraft stores for souvenirs.

(Tip: Most of the food options will be in the town, so if you are planning on doing a long road trip for the day, you will need to pack food for the ride or make a specific detour back to the town to get lunch)

Johnston Canyon: Take Your First Hiking Step At This Amazing Trail

Scenic view from along the trek at Upper Falls

One thing in Banff is that you need to get used to hiking! 🥾

You can begin your journey at the Johnston Canyon.

Walk along the pathways that wind past cascading waterfalls and dramatic cliff faces.

The Lower Falls is an easy hike for all ages, while the Upper Falls offers a more adventurous option for those up for a challenge.

Duration: 3 to 4 Hours

Sulphur Mountain: Gondola Ride Up To The Peak For A Panoramic View Of Banff Town

In the afternoon, ride the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain for an awesome panoramic view of Banff Town and the Canadian Rockies.

Keep your eyes peeled for mountain sheep on Sulphur Mountain when you are there! 🐑

Duration: At least 2 hours

Day 2: Explore The Famous Lakes in Banff Along The Icefields Parkway

The Icefields Parkway is a drive connecting Banff National Park to Jasper National Park.

This is one of the most scenic drives you can ever make in the world. 🚗

During this car journey, you can find many amazing lakes as we will share as follows.

Lake Louise: The Turquoise Lake of Banff

Named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, this lake is famous for its turquoise waters and stunning mountain backdrop.

Take a walk along the lakeshore or hike up to the Lake Agnes Teahouse for panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

There are food options nearby Lake Louise, so it is a perfect time to get some food while you are here.

Duration: 3 hours if you want to hike or canoe.

Lake Louise. If you went while it was winter, like I did, expect to find a frozen solid lake. Instead, you can bring some ice skates (or rent from the Fairmont Château Lake Louise).

Moraine Lake: A Treasure Shot For You Camera

Just a distance from Lake Louise is the equally stunning Moraine Lake, framed by the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

This is one of Banff’s most-photographed spots, so be sure to bring your camera! 🏞️

(Tip💡: You cannot drive to Moraine Lake by yourself. Plan ahead through either shuttle or guided tour access to enter this beautiful location.)

Peyto Lake: A Stunning Wolf-Shaped Glacier Lake

Frozen Peyto Lake in a moderately thick fog. You cannot really see the wolf shape here 🙁

A natural wonder with a striking wolf-shaped shoreline.

The view from the lookout is nothing short of spectacular! 📸

Day 3: Yoho National Park – The Best Kept Secret Near Banff

Cross into Yoho National Park from Banff. This not-well-known neighbor is a hidden gem that you must visit when in Banff.

Yoho National Park is less crowded than Banff, making it a great place to escape the busier spots.

Emerald Lake: A Tranquil Gem in the Heart of the Rockies

One of the most beautiful lakes in the Canadian Rockies, the emerald-colored waters, surrounded by towering mountains.

The lake is also a peaceful spot for a morning canoe ride (it is cheaper than Lake Louise) or lakeside stroll. 🚣‍♀️

Duration: At least 3 hours if you want to hike the circumference of the lake, and rent canoes.

Natural Bridge: A Geological Phenomenal

On your way back, stop by the Natural Bridge, where the Kicking Horse River has carved through the rock to create a natural arch.

It’s a fascinating geological formation that offers great photo opportunities. 📸

Day 4: Quick Stop At Canmore and Departure To Calgary

As you head back to Calgary International Airport, it is worthwhile to make a quick stop at Canmore to take in the last few moments of the Canadian Rockies.

Canmore Engine Bridge: Featured On The Set Of “Tthe Last Of Us” TV Series

This Old Engine Bridge is featured heavily in episode 6 of “The Last Of Us”.

The Canmore Engine Bridge is a historic landmark that once supported a railway line.

Set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains with the Bow River flowing beneath, it offers a picturesque spot for photos.

If you are a huge fan of “The Last Of Us” TV series, witness the set come to life as you make a visit here.

This 4-day Banff itinerary gives you a taste of the town’s most iconic locations, from stunning lakes to scenic drives and breathtaking hikes.

We hope this guide helps you make the most of your Banff adventure.

Happy travels! 😊
